1930 Mack 1000 GPM Pumper - Apparatus #119 was delivered to the Seattle Fire Department on December 29, 1930 at a cost of $13,375. It is an early 'B' Series Model APDR Type 19 triple combination pumper, hose, and 130 gallon booster tank, with a Byron-Jackson 1000 GPM centrifugal pump. This fire engine has the unique distinction of being the first diesel powered apparatus in the S.F.D.
On february 5, 1938, while assigned to Engine Company 25, a new experimental 6-cylinder Cummins diesel engine, Model MR-600, was installed to replace its original Mack 60 horsepower engine. Five months later the experimental engine failed and the original Mack motor was replace. In 1947, it was re-powered again with a new 188 horsepower Hercules engine.
In 1961 it went into reserve and in 1968 it was sold to the Last Resort Fire Department.
In 1990, Mack Trucks Inc. announced that the company was discontinuing the production of the custom fire apparatus chassis, ending an eighty year 'Built like a Mack Truck' legacy for the Fire Service.
