Description
1908 American LaFrance 65' Aerial Ladder
New York City Fire Department
The spring-assisted hoist that raised this wooden ladder was a great improvement over the manually operated screw hoist. The compressed springs could lift the ladder with great speed and a lot less work. This was important when time and energy needed to be conserved for the fire fighting that would come later after the ladder was in position.
The hook and Ladder crew prepared the way for the engine crew to bring in the hose.
Refurbished in 1955.
Heaver Collection. Vehicle No. 25
On display at The Fire Museum of Maryland.
