Description
1904 'Metropolitan' Steam Fire Engine. Steamers came into wide use in American cities from 1855 until about 1915. This one was built in the Ahrens shops in Cincinnati by the American Fire Engine Company for the city of Reno, Nevada. A large engine for its day, it could pump up to 750 gallons per minute. It was drawn by two or three horses and manned by a crew of three firemen; driver, engineer and stoker. The rest of the engine company rode on a hose wagon or ran alongside.
This 'Metropolitan' steamer is owned by Hall of Flames and is on display at their museum in Phoenix, Arizona.
